Roman Agora Athens: What to See

The Roman Agora sits between Monastiraki and Plaka. It is smaller than the Ancient Agora and easy to include in a walk through the historic centre. Its surviving structures reflect the commercial and public spaces developed under Roman rule.

What to look at

The Gate of Athena Archegetis marks a monumental entrance, while the Tower of the Winds is a particularly distinctive ancient structure associated with timekeeping and the winds. Much of the site survives as columns and foundations, so allow time to look at the layout rather than expecting a fully preserved forum.

Entrance and time

A focused visit may take 30–60 minutes. The official Hellenic Heritage listing shows €10 general admission as of October 2026, with opening times that change between summer and winter. Admission is separate from the Ancient Agora and Acropolis.

Pair it with

Walk from Monastiraki past the Roman Agora into Plaka, or continue towards the upper lanes of Anafiotika. If you only have time to enter one Agora, choose the larger Ancient Agora for its Temple of Hephaestus and museum; the Roman Agora is a shorter additional visit.
