Pangrati is an established residential district east of the National Garden and the Panathenaic Stadium. It is a good place to add to a trip when you want a less monument-focused walk without travelling a long distance across Athens.

Walk in from the stadium
Visit the Panathenaic Stadium, then head east into the neighbourhood. The streets become more residential as you move away from the major avenues. Follow your interests — bookshops, local shops, squares and architecture — rather than chasing a single famous attraction. The National Gallery and other cultural venues in the wider area can extend the outing.

Why it works for visitors

Pangrati is close enough to combine with central sightseeing but feels different from the Acropolis district. It is a good option for travellers staying several days or returning to Athens for a second visit.
Getting around
You may need to walk further to a metro station from parts of Pangrati than a map suggests. The neighbourhood is best approached on foot from the stadium or by using local buses. If staying here, calculate the walk to the transport stop you will actually use each day, especially during summer heat.
