For long days of sightseeing on foot, April–May and September–October usually provide
a better balance than the height of summer. Winter has its own advantages: less
pressure on the main sites and more comfortable museum visits. The right month depends
on whether your priorities are archaeology, swimming, events or a lower accommodation
budget.

## March to May

March can still be cool or rainy. By April, longer daylight makes it easier to combine
an archaeological site with an afternoon neighbourhood walk. May is often a very
good time for outdoor sightseeing; book high-demand attractions ahead and bring
sun protection even if the air feels mild.

## June to August

Summer brings long evenings and good conditions for the sea, but exposed stone sites
can feel intense in the middle of the day. Put the Acropolis first thing in the
morning, add a shaded museum or indoor stop later, and return outside in the evening.
Do not assume that late-afternoon tickets always guarantee cooler conditions during
a heatwave: check weather and official safety announcements.

## September to November

September can still feel summery. October offers a useful combination of sightseeing
and, depending on conditions, coastal outings. In November, daylight becomes shorter
and some attractions move to winter hours. Check sunset times before booking Cape
Sounion or a hilltop outing.

## December to February

Winter is well suited to museums, historic streets and short breaks. Rain and wind
can disrupt ferry plans, while the Acropolis and other outdoor sites have shorter
opening hours. Build some flexibility into a winter itinerary rather than scheduling
every hour.

## One useful rule in every season
