Athens has a visible mural and graffiti culture, particularly in central districts
where older workshops, commercial streets and political movements intersect. It 
is best explored as part of a neighbourhood walk rather than a hunt for a fixed 
list of pieces that may already have disappeared.

## Where to start

Psiri, parts of Exarchia and streets around the historic commercial centre are sensible
starting points. These places differ from one another: Psiri combines workshop history
and nightlife, while Exarchia’s public art often sits within a strongly political
setting.

Pick one area and follow main streets into side lanes rather than zigzagging between
locations across Athens. Photograph the work, note its setting, and give yourself
room to discover murals not already mapped online. Murals may be painted over, walls
renovated and construction sites closed.

## Respect the neighbourhood

Street art is not an invitation to enter private courtyards, climb buildings or 
photograph residents without consent. During demonstrations or tense public events,
leave the area rather than treating confrontation as part of a sightseeing experience.

## Is a guided tour worth it?

A thoughtful guide can explain artists, changing neighbourhood politics and the 
history of individual streets. That contextual knowledge is the reason to book,
