For a peculiar reason most signs of the stores and the restaurants of Athens are in English language - making it easier for the tourists and more difficult for older Greeks...
Where can I find the best souvlaki in Athens?
In the suburbs! It's a bit tricky to find good quality souvlaki in the center of Athens :-(
There are a few nice choices in the center (such as Savvas on Ermou street and Kostas at Agias Eirinis square) but most of them are tourist traps.
Don't eat at Monastiraki souvlaki restaurants! OK, they are packed by Greeks and tourists, but that doesn't mean that they are good. Average quality of food, bad and loud service, expensive pricing... just choose an other option for your souvlaki or your gyros dish! Maybe somewhere at the suburbs or in a non-central, non-touristic area.
