Athens is finally getting its first Vermuteria..Odori. It is going to open in a few days in the heart of the city center (2 str. Skouleniou).
Odori is an innovative all day bar with a unique concept, since it is planning to serve not only classic cocktails and aperitivo, but also upgrade them to the extent that the customer will be able to taste various vermouths and selected Greek spirits allowing him to indulge in a recipe of his own taste.
As the name itself suggests – Odori stands for scent and herbs used in cuisine in Italian- this first Greek vermuteria will show off the secrets and properties hidden in every single herb in its selection.
What’s more, quality food is a part of the game, since the team behind the scenes really thinks that hospitality is a combination of excellent drinks and specialty dishes, which in Odori’s case are classic Italian ones. The food is catered by Walter Speranza and Alberto Simillides, while the menu is prepared by the latter and his team, whom we made the acquaintance of last winter in Palmitas Pop Up Bar.
The drink catalogue is overwhelming, clarifying and inventive. Apart from the cosmopolitan historic flashback in vermouth, Manolis Likiardopoulos gives a tour to his proper aspect of classic cocktails, since he prepares traditional recipes in a more alternative approach. Vermouth comes forward in different versions, whilst all eight of signature cocktails are extremely innovative, since they are based on various scented herbs.
The original aperitivo stands high along with the renowned Negroni served in various ways, one of which is serving every single of its ingredients in a separate bottle so that the customer can indulge in the cocktail on his own accord.
Food flirts with the Italian cuisine, including the original pizza from Naples (big and small), which is baked in a traditional wood-fired oven made of Peruvian stones in 500 degrees for 60 seconds only, in order to preserve the traditional recipe intact. What comes as a pleasant surprise though is the tailor made coffee blend, especially created of four different types to suit the Odori’s team tastes, bearing the shop’s label as well.
