Greek Railway System has two centres; Athens and Thessaloniki, which are connected with a lot of daily itineraries. International routes end at Athens through Thessaloniki.
Though the final destination of the trains is Piraeus Port, the main Railway Station of Athens is Larissis Station. Larissis Station and nearby Peloponese Station (they are connected with a bridge) are the two main rail stations fro the domestic itineraries. Larissis is the departure station to the central and northern parts of Greece, while Peloponese Station is the departure place to the south.
The Railway Stations are almost at the centre of the city of Athens, so a taxi shouldn’t charge you more than 10n euros (apr. 15.00 dollars) for the most destinations in the city. In Larissis Station there is a Metro Station that you can use to reach the main spots of Athens. The metro ticket costs 0.80 euros (apr. 1.20 dollars).
