Monastiraki means the small Monastery and it took its name from the old Monastery of Panayia Pantanassa of the area.
Monastiraki is well known around Greece for its flea market Pazari (Bazaar) that happens mainly in Sundays. The Pazari of Monastiraki is also known with the Turkish word Yusurum.
In Monastiraki you will find a lot of shops that sell anything that you would like to find – from leather clothes to antiques and from rare LPs to Orthodox Icons.
In Monastiraki you will also find a lot o ouzo-tavernas and cafés, where you can have a bottle of ouzo or a cup of coffee or you can choose one of the grill-restaurants to eat the delicious Pita Souvlaki.
