Athens is a city with a great quality and variety of theatres. Ancient, Modern, Classical plays are hold every evening in numerous stages.

Of course all the plays are in Greek language but watching one –even in Greek– is a really interesting thing to do. Monday is a day-off for the most of the plays but usually it is also the day that the scenes present plays at the so called, experimental stage. Watching a play in a theatre is not cheap for Greek people.

The ticket price is more or less 20 to 25 euros (apr. 25 to 31 dollars), while there are special discounts for students and for the early evening plays.

Greek nights is a nice way to entertain you in summer for tourists and Greeks as well, while it is one of the best options for family entertainment, due to the fact that you can combine your dinner with nice live music and dance.

Of course it is possible to have a Greek Night in winter too, but especially in summer it is one of the best things to do. Bouzouki, guitar and maybe violin are the basic instruments that you will see in a Greek traditional music group.

You will eat, drink and dance listening to the popular Greek music, folk songs, Zorba style dancing music and of course melodies from the Greek islands.

In Athens a nice place to join a Greek Night (thought it is a bit touristy) is at Mnisikleous Str., Plaka, under the rock of Acropolis. Drink your ouzo or your retsina and have fun!

The truth is that classical music is not the most popular way of entertainment in Greece.

However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t listen to classical orchestras in Athens. In fact, great concerts are hold in the city’s music halls almost every day. Your first option – and probably the best – is the Megaro Mousikis at Vasilisis Sofias Avenue, next to the embassy of the United States.

In everyday basis various artists – mainly of classical music – present well known music themes and concerts. Megaro Mousikis is accessible through the Metro, at Megaro Mousikis Station, with a lot of buses and of course with a taxi.

Another good option for Classical Music lovers in Athens is Lyriki Skini (Lyric Scene) at Panepistimiou Str. where famous artists present their work.

Lyriki Skini is accessible from the Panepistimiou Metro Station, with several buses and with a taxi as well. Depending on the period of time that you visit Athens you may have the ability to listen to classical music in several Conservatoire Halls and in ancient theatres of Athens city.
